Help out the Environment, Go Green by Losing Weight

28 August 2008 2 Comments

Extra pounds mean extra weight when you travel, whether by car or by plane. Either way, it takes more fuel to haul your excess baggage.

A 2006 study published in The Engineering Economist journal discovered that Americans pumped 938 million more gallons of fuel a year than they did in 1960 because of carrying around excess weight. Combine those findings in 2006 with the higher gas prices of today and you begin to see the toll that heftier frames are taking on the environment.

An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your miles per gallon (MPG) by up to 2%. This formula affects smaller vehicles more than larger ones and is based on the amount of extra weight relative to the vehicle’s weight, but hey, every little bit helps.

Now let’s talk about airplanes. To combat the rising cost of fule, airlines are charging overweight consumers for two seats or even more. If you fly frequently, you could possible shave thousands of dollars per year by losing weight.

So what have you got to lose, but some weight? I’ll even help you get started. Click here to get my Free E-course “How to Burn Calories While you Sleep,” and start helping the environment today.
